Sale and Supply of Tobacco Products

Prohibiting Sales to Minors

It is an offence under the Tobacco Products Control Act 2006 (the Act) if a person sells or supplies a tobacco product or smoking implement to a person under 18 years of age.

Retailers play an important role in tobacco control by ensuring their businesses operate in accordance with provisions of the Act that aim to reduce the availability of tobacco products to minors. For example, by asking for proof of age, refusing to sell tobacco products and smoking implements to anyone under the age of 18 years and displaying required warning signs.

If you witness or are aware of a person who you suspect is under the age of 18 years being sold or supplied a tobacco product, please contact the Tobacco Control Branch on (08) 9242 9633.
